5 Ways To Keep Your Closet and Clothes Smelling Great

For dressers and small sections in closets, even if your clothes are fresh out of the laundry, the clean scent typically goes away after a day and gets replaced with the staleness of its surroundings.

The best way to kill two birds with one stone is to make your closet smell better. Why? It’s because when your closet smells good, your clothes smell good as well. After all, it’s not like we have the time to do laundry every time something smells dirty. In addition, sometimes even the best detergent lacks the powerful knockout blow needed to eliminate odors.

If you’re struggling to keep your closet and clothes smelling nice, the following tricks will assure you that bad odors never set foot in your closet or the threads of your clothes ever again.

Old Dryer Sheets

Did you know that after you finish using a dryer sheet in your laundry, you can reuse it? Even after one wash, a dryer sheet still has a nice lingering smell that can scent the closet and your clothes. The best way to go about this is to stick a sheet in the pockets of a few articles of clothing and in the corners of dressers. This works well because, chances are, you’ve used the same sheets for your clothes.

Air Fresheners

We use air fresheners to make an entire room smell nice, but we immediately throw it away once the scent gets a little weak. Before you dispose of one, tuck one in your closet. Why? While a weak air freshener doesn’t have as much of an impact in a large space, it can be quite potent in a small space like a closet or drawer.

Vodka

You may be thinking “What…?” but rest assured it works. Vodka is proven to help kill musty odors in old clothing. Simply mix some vodka and water in a one to one ratio and fill up a spray battle with the mixture. Gently spray a bit of the mixture onto an article of clothing and hang it in an open area of your closet.

Fragrance Oils

Fragrance oils can be used in a variety of ways to keep your clothes smelling fresh. For example, you can add a drop or two of oil to a washcloth and dump it in the dryer with your clothes, which will garnish them with a light pleasant smell. Another way is to mix a few drops of oil with water, similar to the vodka method, and to spray it onto clothing that needs a refresh.

Potpourri

Finally, keeping some potpourri in the corners of your closets is an effective solution for odors. For extra effect, wrap the potpourri in some tissue paper and group the wrappings in a basket to keep your closet smelling nice for months.
