Working with clients is the #1 thing I love to do! I very much enjoy discovering what is important to them and collaborating to create the perfect storage solution. It is so satisfying to design something that is attractive and incorporates what is most important to them to solve their storage problems.
My educational and work experience includes design and sales in the hotel arena. Creating unique solutions to utilize every bit of space that’s available is both personally rewarding and fun.
My husband calls me MacGyver. I love to problem solve around the house with my do it yourself projects using not so traditional materials!
“How do you first approach a space? In other words, what’s the first thing you think about when you first see a client’s closet space/storage problem?”
Depending on the conversations we’ve had, I begin visualizing the puzzle pieces that will fit in the space to fulfill their vision and solve their problems.
“What is the biggest design obstacle you’ve overcome? i.e. awkwardly angled walls, electrical sockets in bizarre places, big collections in small spaces.”
Awkwardly angled walls and small spaces with really tall ceilings have been my biggest challenge, but because we’re a 100% custom company, there’s nothing Closet Factory can’t do!
“Since collaboration is such an integral part of the design process, how do you like to engage or connect with clients in order to help them realize their vision for a space?”
I like to engage my clients in conversations about what is important to them. What do they like about what they have? What do they not like? What’s their vision of a perfect space? I like to use visual aids to help make sure we are on the same page about a certain look.
“How are you inspired by a home’s existing décor? Is there anything specific that you look for during an in-home consultation?”
Existing décor is sometimes something I’ll look at. Décor is more of a conversation.Again, visual aids are important in making sure I am understanding a client’s vision. In a remodel, I find it important to look at the décor and ask if they are trying to incorporate this look (trim type, colors, molding etc..) or if they’re envisioning something totally different.
“What are some ways a custom designed home office can improve productivity? In other words, how does the right type of home office help people do business?”
I believe it is different for each person. Some people may find that filling the space at their fingertips is most important, while others may want their copier / scanner within reach. It is important to treat each opportunity as a new one, interview the client about what they need to help them be more productive, and never assume anything! That’s why I always make suggestions according to your exact needs.
“What are some modern organizational trends, or what’s a trend you’re looking for?”
I like to look for new ways to solve the same old problems, so I come prepared with options to present my clients. The use of a Murphy Bed in a multipurpose room seems to be trend that has resurfaced. Pantry solutions are also an area I like to keep in touch with new trends in storage solutions.
